I think the urge to not be forgotten, to pass away leaving some mark, some legacy , some way for future generations to know that you were a vibrant interesting caring person, this urge is strong. I have it too, but I don't have years and years of my daily thoughts put to paper. The Permanent Record you have is not so easily done, and shouldn't be dismissed. It already is a legacy.

It's not for us to determine what future people will think of us, though. We can provide a record of ourselves, and let them determine if it matters to them. That's the only thing we can do.

Your paper journal and your livejournal are more similar than different in this regard. You should archive your LJ someplace where you have access to it. We do that much.
