Hm, it's a funny illustration, but of course the meanings of a lot of words have changed just that much in the last 150 years to make the comments incorrect. You know, it's like training your ear for British English or something, if you read a lot of books of the era referencing primary sources, eventually you begin to hear those meanings without effort, so maybe I'm a little biased as it's a preferred period for my non-fiction audiobook purchases.
