To-Go Ware

I know I can't afford to buy something every day for the Decrease Worldsuck project. But I saw these at Seward Co-op yesterday and thought they were so cool that I'd come back when I get my next paycheck. Then I decided, the heck with it and went back today to make the purchase.

This is what I did today to make the world a better place: I bought a set of these from To-Go Ware, which slip easily into my purse. Americans toss out enough plastic forks, knives and spoons each year to circle the equator 300 times. CONSERVE, an NGO operating in India, makes the cases for these nifty bamboo utensils from trash bags, and in the process help make a better life for their workers. Watch the video below here; it's pretty interesting.

Oh, what a great idea. I have a similar set in bamboo (can you say "renewable resource"?), but I like the idea of having them in recycled plastic.

The utensils ARE bamboo; it's the case for carrying them that's made of plastic.

Whoops, sorry, I read too fast, I guess.

Mine are in a beautiful hand-woven cloth wrap that I'm afraid to wash; recycled plastic is definintely an improvement over that.

It still might be a To-Go Ware set, maybe? They also sell some in cloth covers. See the video here (the middle one), where the founder visits some of the women at the WEAVE consortium, making covers at the Thai-Burma border.
