It certainly fits the observations I've been seeing around Twitter, specifically about the Twin Cities.
It's not quite the same level in other cities as Mpls/St Paul, but there is certainly an element of, "Protest starts peacefully, cops escalate protest, violence happens, other people take advantage of the violence for their own purposes."
