It's not something that anyone has ever said to me, no. I'm talking about it as a sort of cultural assumption/expectation. Our culture did away with mourning rituals because they had gotten downright oppressive between the morbidity of Victorian culture and the depressing number of losses between World War I and World War II. But honestly, I think that in doing so, our culture has swung a bit too far the other way: wanting to forget about death and loss as much as possible.
