A good program today on NPR: Speaking of Faith

Speaking of Faith is a regular NPR program which explores (obviously) issues of faith. Today's program dealt with fantasy, and included discussion of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, Holes, the Matrix and more. Quite thoughtful. I like the moderator, Krista Tippett, a lot. This program description reads:

A Return to the Mystery: Religion, Fantasy, and Entertainment
Today's program is on the explosion of religious and spiritual themes in movies and television. Host Krista Tippett explores the deeper appeal of programs like Harry Potter and the Matrix with Phyllis Tickle, a veteran observer of what she calls "God-Talk" in America. We also speak with Lynn Schofield Clark, who studies the religious impulse behind modern teenagers' fascination with the supernatural. We'll ask how fantasy in media reflects a changing spiritual imagination, especially of younger Americans.

Listen to the program, using RealPlayer here.

(Hey, HPEF people, [livejournal.com profile] heidi8, [livejournal.com profile] gwendolyngrace, [livejournal.com profile] cedarlibrarian, [livejournal.com profile] psychic_serpent and others, maybe some of these people being interviewed would be of interest to some of the HPEF upcoming events programming committees. Both Phyllis Tickle and Lynn Schofield Clark were very interesting.)
