Delia is still sick

She was close to 103 this morning. This has been going on since Friday morning. I just got back from the clinic with her. The mono test was negative (although they explained that if it's just starting, it could be a false negative). They are testing her for Lyme's disease, because of that camping trip we took, although the doctor thought that was unlikely. Her white blood cell count and platelet counts were a little low, which makes them think it's a virus. So another day of rest and forcing fluids.

Delia did not like having her blood drawn. She Did Not Like It, and she wept in protest, but she held her arm very still, and we praised her extravagently for her bravery. I'm going down now to see if she would like me to do a craft project with her.

Ahhhh....tell Delia some far away stranger hopes she starts feeling better soon. Nobody likes having their blood drawn. She was brave to hold still. I'm impressed.

Did any of the things people recommended in your last post appeal to her?

Hope everyone else stays healthy, and that she's better soon.

Brave Delia! I think that, even considering all the surgeries my kids had, the absolute worst medical thing was having blood drawn. So few of the technicians seem to be really skilled with kids' tiny veins.

Poor kid. :( I hope she feels better soon.

Has she been tested for Rocky Mountain tick fever? I had it a couple of years ago and the symptoms sound VERY similar.

(Lyme disease is similar but not the same.)

Good idea to test for Lyme. It may be a long shot, but it can be quite damaging if not caught early.

Hope things improve soon.

That's one brave girl you have there. I hope she's better soon.

The earliest "adult" conversation I can remember having with Aliera centered around having blood drawn. She was four and a half I think. Since she was off the scale small at the time they wanted to check for growth hormone deficiency. She didn't want to have the blood drawn, and argued that it was her body, and she ought to make decisions about it. I could only partially explain why we wanted to do this, but this was not an arbitrary action and if I didn't think it was important I wouldn't ask her to go through it. She eventually reluctantly allowed me to override her autonomy in this case, and took it all very calmly in a "giving me enough rope to hang myself" kind of way.
