It's funny, I do tend to want to plan more (maybe too much) on a novel, and I'm willing to let a short story wander where it will. But I'm doing NaNoWriMo differently. It starts next week (!) and, although I have the basic ideas and characters in my head, I haven't let myself sit down and plan hard. I want to let the story lead me, rather than me lead the story.
(And we'll see JUST how effective that is when I'm whining in mid-November about "what will they do NEXT??") ;)
