Not stupid enough to run off like that, or not stupid enough to opt into a culture of fear that sees kidnappers everywhere, as shown by the early news coverage? Both, I hope. (As I said to cakmpls, stranger kidnapping is really rare but does happen, so ideally kids would be careful but not afraid.)
