You've never seen Rebecca???? Somehow, it seems to me that of course you would have.

Oh, do see A Man for All Seasons. It's worth seeing for any one of the following (but it has ALL of them!): Orson Welles as Cardinal Wolsey, Robert Shaw as Henry VIII, Wendy Hiller as Alice, the ethereal and impossibly young Vanessa Redgrave as Anne Boleyn, More's "give the devil the benefit of law" speech to Will Roper, his speech to the court when he sees that silence will no longer serve him, the music ...

I think everyone born between, oh, 1945 and 1960, ought to see Annie Hall for the references if nothing else, but I can't say I'm a fan--I found the character of Annie so irritating that I wanted to throw things.

Out of Africa, yes. Critics laughed, but I defy anyone to see it and leave the theater not wanting to go to Africa; it serves the beauty of the land very well. Redford and Streep, eh--I found Klaus Maria Brandauer more attractive, strangely enough. A good movie to see in the winter in Minnesota.

This was supposed to reply to Peg's main entry, not to [livejournal.com profile] tiellan's comment.
