Actually, I've read Lord of the Rings and listened to the BBC Radio production so often that I know the book extremely well, which meant I could just pick many of the quotes right out of my own memory (going back to the book to check that I had the wording exactly right, and I usually did). [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson has often marveled at my weird memory, which will allow me to pull quotes verbatim out of the air of something I've read. I did have to ask my friends list for a little help on about ten of them or so. [livejournal.com profile] cedarlibrarian, for example, I remember, was the one who came up with the perfect quotation when I was stumped for something that would denote "flirty":



which is what Galadriel says when Gimli asks for a strand of her hair.
