I was wondering how the heck a derailler could get so screwed up that it bound the chain even after straightening things out. Good news anyway. Enjoy the weather.

One of these days I'll build a ride with a Nexus-8 hub. Internal gearing, you can shift it while standing still without problem, much less to break, simple, straight chainline, much less maintenance. Downside: expensive, doesn't work with most new frames.
