I'm still pondering Rowling's announcement. Is there an openly gay character in the Potterverse? Is homosexuality accepted there? I don't think Dumbledore had a tragic life. He was unlucky in love maybe, and what happened to his family was tragic, but he devoted his life to his cause and had a deep and lasting positive impact on the younger generation.
