My version of Kitten Down a Well Alert

[livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson is instigating a Kitten Down a Well alert:
Right now I am despairing. I think we can't even imagine what the bottom will be like. And I can't read LJ without seeing my own rage, grief, desperation, and fear mirrored and magnified. Bleah.

So, tell me about monkeys riding motorcycles, kittens with four ears, people who give their lottery winnings to the Nature Conservancy, dresses made of turf, your vacations to the beach, and the Collider. Better yet, post them where everyone will see them, as leavening for a heavy time.
I kinda see her point. So I gave her a black belt chimpanzee.

And you? What can you offer in response to a Kitten Down a Well alert during stressful times?

Also, playing Guild Wars. Beating people in the face with steel really lets out those frustrations!

I'm going to post this on my own LJ in a little bit, but for Kij's benefit, here it is also: a six-year-old's version of the Pledge of Allegiance, as recited to us about fifteen minutes ago:

I pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic, for riches and stands, one nation with liberty and justices for all.

Speaking of states - here's an addictive how many can you name? game.

Also, to be appreciated by anyone who has undergone a colonoscopy or similar exam: Dave Barry's take on it; link provided by [livejournal.com profile] dragonfly_lily.

I loved the state game. I played it and then I sent the link to the social studies teacher at my school. After that, I then looked at several animaniacs sogs: one about states and captitols, one about sountries, and one about presidents. It was great!

[identity profile] aome.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, where did you find the Animaniac stuff? I had the President's song half-memorized for awhile; I knew there were songs about the other subjects, too, but don't remember them at all. It's like School House Rock on caffeine - such fun. :D

I looked on YouTube. They had tons of Animaniacs songs on there. I also found clips of them performing scenes from Hamlet and a Midsummer's Night Dream!

I have some awesome pictures of the universe, which really doesn't care what we foolish humans are doing. Ahhh, better.

It's cheesy, but Erasure covers of ABBA cheer me up!

One of my favorites (I like funny stories when Im feeling down too.) is http://www.snopes.com/critters/disposal/catchday.asp
basically a cat runs afoul of a garbage disposal, creates havoc and lives to tell the tale

This is not quite as amusing as that story, but it always makes me laugh: http://littera-abactor.livejournal.com/7748.html

This morning all my hot water was out. (Cold shower = not such a problem when you're in a semitropical climate, it's still summer weather, and you've just worked out.) I checked the water heater and the circuit breaker and didn't see anything obvious to fix. So I waited until the Very Nice Apartment Guard came in, to ask him to check it (so many things are different in Taiwan: he's familiar with local systems and I'm not). The next step would have been to call the rental agent and ask him to get a plumber.

The VNAG found the problem. Was a breaker flipped? was a pilot light out? No, no: my hot water was out because the hot water heater's battery was dead. (boggle)

It's not as silly as it sounds: it runs on gas and apparently instead f an always-on pilot light, the battery powers an ignition system. But it sitll strikes me as funny.

Hobbits. Hobbits should make anyone feel better, don't you think?

This lovely bit of fanart, of Bilbo and a wee Frodo was made for me

Jim Victor's butter sculpture and other food art. Especially the cow on the motorcycle.

And Thai fruit carving, too.

just wondering...

Did you guys go to the Renaissance Festival this year? I don't recall reading about it...

We are going Sunday.

We wanted to go, believe me. Desperately. But given Rob's job situation, we can't justify the cost. We will have to wait until next year.

Too cute.

Also, I always recommend So Your Cat Has Ass Breath (http://tomatonation.com/?p=556) when in need of a giggle.
