Okay, yeah, the bailout

But this is the victory I really care about.

Wherever you are right now, Paul and Sheila Wellstone, I hope you know. I sure wish you could have been here to see this day. This one's for you. And for me. And my family. And all the people who have been fighting for this for so many years.

I am not so sure about the bailout. I am thrilled about this. :)

Mental health parity

I am so glad to hear about this!! (You already know I'm a mental patient, right? Neither proud nor ashamed, like my blue eyes. But this will make it possible for millions of other people to get to the point I'm already at. Good.)

Nate

On behalf of my family and all that I've been through with my mother, we celebrate this day, and remember the great champions that Paul and Sheila were.

Rest in peace, Paul & Sheila. You finally won the battle.

*sniff*

Thanks for posting this. I heard that the legislation passed, but not the name of the act.

Perhaps you can answer this question. But doesn't it outlaw discrimination just for employer sponsored plans? So my individual plan with Blue Cross Blue Bastards can still refuse to pay for any mental health and be legally ok?

[identity profile] pegkerr.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that may be true, unless the state has a protective insurance parity law. I think it's for companies with at least 50 employees.

[identity profile] kokopoko.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Won't work for me as my company has less than 15 employees.

That is fantastic news! Thank you for sharing this.

Heh. For years, every time I wrote or called Domenici, hoping against hope that some tiny good would be done on this or that issue by the words of a constituent who disagrees with him, I also mentioned how thankful I am for his work on this issue. We don't agree about much, but this is a big one. I no longer live in his state, but perhaps I'll send one final note.

I hated to have it attached to that behemoth of a nightmare, but I'm glad it finally passed. Nothing much has changed with the parity law here in WA, but I hope that this may finally make a difference.

I rather wish that we'd had parity when my son was so ill, but well, you take what you can get and I've been working on this one.
