The temperature in the house is 58° and the hot water heater isn't working. The dials on the gas meter are not moving.

And the gas company doesn't take any calls until Monday.

Pity I can't send you some of our heat -- high today is supposed to be 91.

And crossing fingers that the problem is on their end (i.e. not going to cost you anything)!

It seems weird that they don't take emergency calls from people with no heat. What are you supposed to do if you smell gas?

There is an emergency number for gas leaks. We don't smell gas. I tried that number, and I got shunted into a voice mail tree for as best as I can tell people whose gas has been cut off for nonpayment. We HAVE paid; we just don't have heat.
