Must . . . have . . . sugar . . .

I'm still trying to hang on until the end of the month on the no sugar thing. Yesterday I dreamt about chocolate-covered shortbread cookies, chocolate-covered potato chips, ice cream and banana bread. And I was eating all of them, and I was soooooooo disappointed when the phone rang and woke me up.

I'm about ready to crack.

We bought an ice cream maker yesterday.

Oooh, what kind of ice cream maker? Mine is an antique and I think there's nothing better than sitting on the porch, cranking away. I have a whole book of ice cream recipes, so if there's any flavours in particular you'd like to try, just let me know. :)

I got a Cuisinart. It's one of the new-fangled kind, which has a bowl which you put in the freezer and then use to make the ice cream, without ice or salt. We tried it tonight. I made a mango-papaya concoction. The girls turned their nose up at it, but I liked it alot. I predict we'll get a lot of use out of the machine (I hope).

So much easier than cranking! I used to haul mine out to my sister's and make the kids crank. The rule in our family has always been that if you don't crank, you don't get to taste the ice cream.

We've been talking about making a batch of ice cream here. Nyssa is intent on orange, which is my Dad's favourite and very nice. We used to be able to buy orange ice cream at the store when were kids but I haven't seen it in decades.

I have lots of nice fruit-flavoured ice cream recipes, so the offer is always there if you want me to share a couple with you. How much does the Cuisinart make? Mine can make up to 2 quarts at a time. I have to keep a supply of large plastic containers on hand so we can stock up the freezer. :)

I would never have turned my nose up at mango-papaya! I've made mango but not mango-papaya.

You can do it! It's just a couple more days! *cheers you on*!

Borrow my ice cream recipe book (by Ben and Jerry) if you like.

I had an idea recently for a small gift to send you (if that would be all right) and, if so, I think I'll include my recipe for caramel brownies, which have absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever, but BOY ARE THEY GOOD. I'd send you the brownies directly, but it being summer, I'm thinking that's a rather risky prospect.
