Seen at end of highway exit

A man standing at the corner, holding a sign that said:

WHY LIE
NEED BEER

One of the (many) panhandlers here in Seattle has a similar sign. Always gets a smile from me, and if I had money, I'd probably give him a dollar. (Having been homeless and in the shelter system for over a year, I know just how many resources there are here, for food and shelter, and how much of a scam the by-the-freeway-sign thing is. One woman doing it, *and* staying at the same shelter, told me she gets at least $50 a day, which went for her drug habit. Not a living wage, but when not reported to welfare, well, it adds up.)

Gah. And I used to think I was mildly cynical... *wry*

A similar sign, seen in Harvard Square, next to a young couple (MF):

"WHY LIE. MONEY FOR BEER SO I CAN GET DRUNK AND HE CAN GET LAID."

Definite points for honesty. I'd probably give him a dollar.

Now that guy, I'd be tempted to slip a buck to.

i like the sign i saw downtown this summer by some teenagers: "parents killed by ninjas. need money for kung fu lessons" i was highly amused. they get points for creativity!

It's amusing, but I don't give it any more credence than any other advertisement I see or hear.
