Whimper

Okay, you know I've been complaining about the allergies and how they stopped my exercise program cold. Well, the allergies, I think, have finally, FINALLY eased off.

Which means it is time to kick the exercise program back into gear.

I've been very cautious about resuming, but today I sat myself down and gave myself a firm talking-to. I don't want to become a complete kludge; it is hard enough to feel okay about my body as it is. Time to get back to work, Peg. No excuses.

So I pulled out an often used FIRM DVD, Body Sculpt. I'm not a complete idiot. I took it slow, and I didn't attempt to do anything like what I used to do; in fact, I did quite a bit of it (like the section stepping on the tall box) without using any weights at all.

It still absolutely kicked my ass. And it's over 90 degrees in my office. I'm dripping with sweat, and my muscles are burning.

I used to be able to do this DVD. Then I quit karate and got laid low by allergies. And now, a mere six months later, I am totally decrepid. *Cries*

Still (looking hard at the holy tree), you did the damn thing, Peg. Yes, you did.

You go, girl. Sorta.

*Slithers off to dissolve in the shower.*

It will come back faster. (I had to quit exercising my show when I had to go full time at school. four months I missed . . . but when I started back, it took about two weeks to be on top of it, whereas when I first began it, it took more like four months to get through without skimping or major soreness.)

you know what they say about the longest journey and a few steps.

Good on you, Peg!

Hey, that's more working out that I've done all year! So you keep at it, Peg! You'll be cranking it out in no time.

Hello

Good for you!

You remind me that I have to make my own healthy changes and not just sit back. Hi, I'm Jacquie. I've seen you around the HP fandom and we have a few common friends and interests so I thought to friend you. I hope it's okay, let me know otherwise.

And I love all your Tolkien icons and trees. I used to be heavily involved in online LotR fandom as I adore Samwise and Hobbits in general.

You were off exercise pretty much for six months, for good reasons. *Of course* you aren't in as good shape as you were then. Having taken the step of starting up again now is a *good* thing, and it sounds like you probably didn't even over-do it too badly, which is the big thing to worry about when re-starting a conditioning program.

So, you've done the right things; it was right for you to be away from the exercise for a while, and now it's right to get back to it. You'll catch up to pretty much where you were fairly quickly, if you don't manage to injure yourself or induce heat-stroke. Taking it reasonably easy at first is the right thing to do.

Don't have to like it. Just have to do it.

it will come back faster than if you had never done it.

and doing it at all, even not as well as you used to be able to, is a lot better than doing nothing.

which is what i am doing. ahem.

It'll come back. And good on ya mate for doing it in a ninety-degree environment -- I would imagine that ups the difficulty _quite_ a bit.

There was a time when I rode my exercise bike at least 40 minutes every day at the second-highest setting. Then I went on vacation for a week and didn't exercise at all. The first day home, I jumped on the bike and did my usual routine...and could barely walk for a week after. So I don't think you should feel bad about having trouble after six months. Besides, I'm sure you'll get back into it fairly quickly.

Yes. I'm hoping that we'll both find that it doesn't take as long to get back into shape this time.
