My family takes good care of me

I'm still knocked flat today. Still feverish and coughing, although the coughing isn't quite as desperate and the sore throat isn't quite as unbearable today. I slept very badly last night, actually getting up to take a hot bath a couple of times in the middle of the night, but I've napped several times today. (Poor Rob slept on the couch last night. He found the room unpleasantly hot from the humidifier, and my coughing would have made it impossible for him to sleep).

Rob went to Delia's conferences today (she's doing extremely well) and then the two of them went to the grocery store. They came back, gloating, bearing Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice tea and Traditional Medicinal Throat Coat tea, soup, italian ices, a get well card and Cepacol and a dozen roses which are sitting there on my bedside table. And a brand new pair of fuzzy slippers for me.

They are taking really good care of me.

The 48 hour strep test came out negative. For those of you who asked, my doctor did listen to my lungs but didn't detect signs of pneumonia. She did give me a prescription for antibiotics that I'm to fill on Sunday if I don't seem to be getting better. I'm hoping I won't have to do so.

:( I was hoping for your sake it would be strep, because the antibiotics would have knocked it out in no time flat. As it is, it sounds like you have the pain of strep without the easy curability.

You are lucky to have such an attentive family, though.

I really feel for you. The worst sore throat of my life came when I came down with mono. My tonsils were so swollen, and I was in so much pain, I couldn't swallow my own saliva. Fortunately, I didn't have a cough - just the other crummy stuff that accompanies mono.

I hope very much you're on the mend and that you can get some much needed rest.

Could it be a sinus infection? I get them often, and even though my sinuses don't hurt all that much, they drain and it really, really makes my throat sore. In which case, antibiotics have me feeling better in about 12 hours.

I dunno how into natural meds you are but here are some really god herbs that you can use, that wont harm you if its not the right med. if it doesnt work its just a nice tea. =)

tea with rosemary, sage and mint (good for any flu like symptom) do not take for more than 20 consecutive days. (sage stuff can build up in your organism, but since its used in cooking and other stuff its not too bad, only if you take it ALL the time)
mint tea - good for headaches, and stomach upsets too!
pineapple - great for sore throats. any shape is good but if you can make some kind of syrup its better.
apple - its an astringent (sp?) it cleans the throat and helps keep or get you voice back!

Teas in general usually make me feel better!

I hope you feel better soon!

Pneumonia can't always be detected just by listening. When I had it a few years back, they only found it by x-raying my lungs. Even then, it only showed up on the side view, not from the front/back. My doctor was pissed, as the first time they did the x-rays they only did the front/back one.

Hope you're feeling better soon!
