Missed the groundbreaking

Okay, I screwed up. They have already had the groundbreaking ceremony for the ice palace they're going to build this year. And I missed it. Apparently, it was held on September 10! They are starting to break ground already because they have to place the concrete pilings and electric cables for the light and sound system. I missed the announcement because it was in the St. Paul paper, not the Minneapolis paper. Damn, damn, damn!

I promised [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson I will track down and call the architect by Wednesday. Hold me to it, folks. I imagine he'll be a little surprised to get the call saying, "I'm writing a novel where the heroine is the architect who designs the St. Paul Winter Carnival ice palace, and I was wondering you'd be willing to meet with me."

Dang! Missing that sucks. It wouldn't have even occured to me that stuff would be happening this early, although if you think about it it makes sense, what with not wanting to work in the ground after a freeze and all.

But this means that the design would need to be finalized really early. Hope that doesn't screw up your plot too much!
