Cravings

I have been seized by a violent craving for brie cheese, drizzled with truffle honey.

I blame [livejournal.com profile] buttonlass, who introduced me to the combination.

Popcorn is not an acceptable substitute, but it's all that I have available.

[livejournal.com profile] buttonlass is, indeed, an evil wench. (And I mean that as high praise.)

Roasted garlic with brie and crusty French bread for me, please?

Also excellent - brie wheel placed on an oven-proof plate, spread with raspberry preserves and slivered almonds, then covered with pie crust (seal it to the plate), and baked. Brie's not my favorite cheese but WOW that was fabulous.

One of my favorite restaurants here in Madrid alas, closed down a few years ago) used to have a lovely dish of warm goat cheese with carmelized onions and honey. Delicious.

(My mother's favorite dish from the place was the gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp) with avocado, which she's tried to recreate at home. Since I'm highly allergic to both fish and shellfish, I could never try it myself...)

I was seized tonight by a violent craving for your microwave cake. Fortunately, I had all the ingredients on hand, and the bowl is sitting beside me even as I type. :-D Drowning my stress in microwave cake feels rather more virtuous than drowning them in rum (which occurred to me), but rather less virtuous than exercise (which also occurred to me -- but getting to the health club would require going outside again, and I spent enough time cold today).

I just made a bowl of it and polished it off fifteen minutees ago!

But I did exercise today (kickboxing) which assuages my conscience a little.

I have developed a brie craving of my own. I made it while in France and now must have it frequently. I use a premade sheet of puff pastry and put it on a baking sheet. I cut thick slices of brie and layer them in the centre. Then I saute sweet onions and mushrooms, drain the liquid and put these on top of the brie. Sometimes I also add some sausage slices. Then I fold the pastry up over it in a circle making a galette with a small opening in the centre. I bake it for 30-40 minutes at 350F and voila!!!

No substitutions!
