Question for Janeites
If I wish to obtain a collection of the letters of Jane Austen, which edition should I get?

The most complete possible--Cassandra destroyed most of the good letters, but there are shorter versions out there. I think them unsatisfying.

Yes, I did know that. I know that Jane loved Cassandra more than perhaps anyone, but I still have trouble forgiving Cassandra for such a crime.

Oh, me too--Charlotte Austen and Charlotte Bronte both. (The latter for burning all her sisters' juvenilia about their other world...but she kept her own. But Anne's and Emily's sounded so much better!)

Deirdre Le Fay's collected letters have been reprinted by the folio society, but the originals are available too. Try www.abebooks.com.
