Woot! Weight milestone achieved

Today I dropped below 150 pounds for the first time since . . . since I don't remember when. Five or seven years, I think.

Since the end of August, I've lost seven pounds, four and a half inches off my waist and an inch off my hips. I think I'm going to buy a CD to reward myself.

SparkPeople really works.

That is so great! I'm loving SparkPeople. I probably don't participate in the community as much as I should, but I use the food and exercise tracker religiously. And, follow the plan, portion control, drinking water, consistent exercise, etc. I'm so loving it and making progress. I'm going to weigh today. Thanks for mentioning it on your journal those months ago.

Congratulations! That's wonderful.

So, was it hard? I've, er, rounded again and need to get some weight off. Did it affect your family's food?

I've been really pleased with Sparkpeople. Using the tracker has been exactly what I needed to keep me on target.

Whoot!

The key thing I did was to buy a food scale for about $30.00. I weigh everything and enter my foods into the nutrition tracker, but it doesn't take very long at all. You can also pre-program the nutrition tracker with foods or recipes you eat a lot. For example, for breakfast I frequently eat a cup of Shredded Wheat, sprinkled with a tablespoon of Grape Nuts, a banana, and a tablespoon of dried cranberries, with 3/4 cup soy milk. I have programmed that as "Breakfast" and just click it once, and it enters all five foods for me at once. I pretty much just eat what I always eat (I already had a healthy diet, with lots of fruits and vegetables). What has changed has been hte portion sizes. Sometimes, I enter what I plan to eat into the nutrition tracker BEFORE I eat it, and realize, whoa, that had more calories than I thought it did, and then I can substitute something else.

It hasn't been hard. It's just being a little more mindful, and it's actually fun to see my nutrition report every day, and figure out what nutrients I've gotten enough of and what I am missing. I am sure when I have my next doctor's appointment, I will give her a number of my charts, and that will give her a much better idea of what I am doing, too.

For years, I couldn't lose weight, and I kept moaning, "I just don't know why!" SparkPeople makes it possible to figure out why. For me, I discovered that my diet was pretty healthy, but my portion sizes were just a little too large. (I've also been short on a few nutrients; now I know which ones and am adjusting my diet accordingly). Now that my portion sizes have been correct, I've been losing weight consistently. As for hunger, it really hasn't been too bothersome. The calorie range that they give you keeps you from getting too hungry, and you just plan ahead. I'm not really an emotional eater, so that hasn't been an issue much.

Quick question: I want to confirm a detail of your address, because I'm about to send the friendship ball back. You are in Apt. 1, yes? I knew that you moved apartments in your building, and I wasn't sure which is the current one. Thanks!

Congrats!

SparkPeople is indeed most excellent. I keep meaning to thank you for posting about it -- I've lost 19 pounds since about mid-August using SparkPeople, and I'm not sure I'd have found it if you hadn't posted about it.
