Senator Hillary Clinton has accepted Barack Obama's offer to become Secretary of State, a position I suggested five and a half months ago.

Edited to add: This announcement may be premature. Still checking to find a verification from other sources.

Later: Still haven't verified the story with another source. Guess it's still hanging fire. . .

I was just weighing the reliability of that source.

Huh. American news sources don't have it final yet, but that doesn't mean much.

Hmm. Not sure. Still trying to get confirmation from other sources. However, I'm hopeful.

I think it says something to me that the WaPo doesn't have it. I'll believe it in the morning. I do NOT think this is the right job for Hil.

is that Caribou Barbie still thinks she's going to be asked to be a vital part of the government.

She's freaking delusional.

I've heard what might be hanging it up is ex-Prez Bill's overseas financial involvments. Some of Obama's advisors are afraid of the appearance of conflict of interest...

Ever since she lost the primary, I've thought she'd make an excellent Secretary of State. She has eight years of experience traveling around the world as the President's representative and even though that was more of an unofficial, ceremonial position, I think she would do well in an official role as well.

FWIW, the local papers were speculating today about possible replacements in her current job, but that means little; the Boston papers were talking about who would try for Kerry's seat if he got that appointment, at least a week ago.

Officially, at the moment nothing's been officially offered or accepted. She was asked about her interest. If you hear it, it'll be from the Obama camp first.

I'd been kind of hoping that Bill Richardson would get SoS, but that is looking unlikely. Ah well....

I don't think she'll do it, nor is she my first choice. I think honestly it was to placate some people but I see Bill Richardson as a more viable candidate. Not that I think she'd bad, but she does have some entanglements with former President Clinton's international charitable causes.

My money is on Richardson.

They have, as already noted, a serious problem with the "Bill" side of the Hill 'n Bill show on this, with his arm-twisting of various Powerful Foreign Persons for his foundation, and with his extensive and expensive speaking engagements.

Also, I've never thought Sen. Clinton was noted for delicate and nuanced diplomacy.
