[livejournal.com profile] haddayr pointed this out. Yes. Brought tears to my eyes, it did. [livejournal.com profile] haddayr's right; it's wonderful that Pete Seeger lived to see this day. Along with the rest of the entire damn nation.

What I did to make the world a better place today: went to www.usaservice.org to try to find a volunteer project for tomorrow. I think we'll work with a food shelf drive.

I'm sort of afraid I may need to use it myself in the coming months.

The love you put out now will be repaid with interest. Too many people refuse to help because they are afraid they might need help later. By reducing worldsuck now you are reducing your risk of personal lifesuck later.

*hugs*

I liked particularly that they included some of Woody's more subversive verses. You want to cry "socialist?" Here's some straight-up communism for ya!
Was a high wall there that tried to stop me
A sign was painted said: Private Property,
But on the back side it didn't say nothing --
That side was made for you and me!

How wonderful!! I remember singing that song in 4th or 5th grade, for the annual "California, So Wondrous to Behold" program. So cool to hear it again now!!

Thanks for sharing! It made me think for a moment that I should have gone. The visitors have brought a lot of excitement to town, and I have the urge to share it.

I've checked www.usaservice.org but there are so many local events it will be hard to pick one!

If you're in the U.S. or territories, you can see the whole thing via HBO's feed, but there's no random access.

I had to look at the song listing inUSA Today to find out who is standing to the, ahhh, left (as you look at the picture) of Pete Seeger. The picture in USA Today was of just Bruce and Pete.

Unfortunately, the video was pulled by HBO.

Interesting. A few months ago, I saw a discussion on "why on earth anyone would continue to contribute to charities in these hard times?" The conclusion that group came up with was so that those contributing would get the services when it came their turn. You get out what you put in, so to speak.

I think your idea on this - By reducing worldsuck now you are reducing your risk of personal lifesuck later. - is closer the mark. It also lifts ones spirit to help others, something the other group wouldn't consider.
