Should I spend the $35.00 and do this?

It could be classified as research, sort of.

Couldn't it?

Heck yes, it's research! Although "if the Deity had intended helicopters to fly, they would have fixed wings...."

It's absolutely research!

You can classify it any way you want, but you should do it.

If I were in town, I'd do it.

Research or not, $35 is quite reasonable for a copter ride. Go for it!

Research, and hey, maybe one of your characters does it, even in a scene that ends up on the cutting room floor, so you *have* to go.

Absolutely!

An adventure like that, particularly one so closely related to your subject matter is sure to be inspirational.

On a side note, reading your LJ has gotten me quite excited about the Ice Palace book. I want to read it - but I suppose I have to wait until it exists first.

Go go go! It sounds like a great experience if you'd like it. My question would be, what time of night? How dark is it around five, is it still dusk, and if so, would that or full dark be better? Great research!

Yes, you should. Absolutely. And it is research, so save the receipt.

Maybe this vote will count, since so many of mine in recent years seem not to.

YES. You've probably spent $35.00 on more frivolous things (ummm, like, maybe, more books when you already have a reading list a foot long...? ahem...projection...'scuse me...)

And keep your receipt, just in case.

Oh my gosh. Yes. Yes, you should. Hell, I'll take up a collection to give you the $35 to go do that! Just take pictures! Even if it *weren't* research, which it *is*, it'd be tremendously cool to do!

BTW, thanks for posting yesterday about resuming your Eowyn's Challenge. Had I not posted on your lj that I was going to go walk last night, I probably would've let myself flake and not do it, so I owe you one. :)

As I was wandering through the money sink that is Bibelot on Como Ave, I came across a book: History of the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

I didn't flip through it, but I can go back and do so (or you can)-- and let you know if there's anything in there about the Fish in the Ice Block.

You probably already have this book-- but just in case you didn't...

Yes, I do have that book. I should look through it again and see if I can find any reference to the fish block. If it doesn't have anything, I might contact the author, Moira Harris, to see if she has any leads. The Communications Director, Angela Yender, may help me track down further history, too. Somehow or other, I'll find the info I need.

And, of course, being a fiction writer, if I don't find it, I can always make it up.

Cheers,
Peg

Absolutely. I jst spent $35 at the book store and while the books will be good reads, the copter ride is sooooooooo relevant at the mometnand should be fun too. You can get a feel for the scope of a project better from the air than on the ground. You should see if anyone is selling aerial photos of it. That might be good to hav for reference to give you spatial perspective.

Yes:) At the very least it will give you a feeling and maybe a mindset for your book. And fun:P
