What I did this year to decrease worldsuck:

January:
1/1/10 - Make an entry to sum up 2009; recommit to the Decrease Worldsuck project for 2010. Clicked the magic button at www.thehungersite.com.
1/5/10 - Purchased the 1% for the Planet collection
1/6/10 - alerted a friend that I'd received a phishing email from her and reported it to Facebook.
1/7/10 - Sent an email to my nephew, who plays the mandolin, to let him know about a free mandolin concert. Signed a petition from the Sierra Club to stop strip mining. Gave chemical handwarmers to the young woman taking the petition around the neighborhood, to keep her warm in sub-zero temperatures.
1/8/10 - Clicked the magic button at www.thehungersite.com. Made a small donation to support an independent film project for a story that I love.
1/10/10 - Attend Mexico mission trip meeting (girls are going this year)
1/11/10 - Purchase cotton canvas sleeve for take out coffee cups so I don't keep taking the cardboard cup holder (Americans use 1.1 billion of them a year).
1/14/09 - Took the hamper we'd stuffed with plastic bags to the grocery store to drop the bags in the recycling bin.
1/15/10 - Clicked the magic button at www.thehungersite.com. Made a donation to Americares.org for Haiti. Filled out matching contribution form so my employer will double the donation.
1/17/10 - Drove to All Saints Lutheran Church in Minnetonka to get more candy bars for Fiona and Delia to sell to raise money for the Mexico misison trip. Placed copies of my books up for auction for the Haiti relief effort at [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti.
1/18/10 - Clicked the Land O'Lakes Foundation website to donate a dollar to food shelf.
1/22/10 - Installed low waterflow shower head (well, Rob installed it, but I ordered it, so I figure it counts.)
1/23/10 - Promoted a friend's work ([livejournal.com profile] marcgunn) while simultaneously letting my other friends know of an opportunity to get free music. Also purchased the "Hope for Haiti" fundraising album on iTunes.
1/24/10 - Sent a couple e-mails concerning Delia's efforts to fundraise for Mexico trip.
1/25/10 - Signed The One's US petition urging the cancellation of Haiti's world debt.



February:
2/3/10 - Signed up with RecycleBank and told other people about it. Made a paypal donation to green blogger Derek Markham (@DerekMarkham) who fell and suffered a fracture. Donated to Helping Haiti Heal
2/4/10 - Fill out form to request matching contribution from my employer to match my Helping Haiti Heal contribution yesterday.
2/5/10 - Sent petition to my senators via the AFL-CIO's Working Families website, asking them to extend unemployment benefits.
2/6/10 - Called [livejournal.com profile] elisem to let her know about the Minneapolis Institute of Arts' "Foot in the Door" exhibition and gave her a ride to the museum so that she could check in one of her pieces and participate.
2/21/10 - Drive Delia to Mexico mission trip meeting. Pick up candy bars for Fiona to sell for fundraising.
2/22/10 - Purchase several songs on iTunes that are having all funds donated to Haiti charities.



March
3/7/10 - Drive to pick up the girls from the Mexicon Mission fundraiser.
3/12/10 - Syndicated feeds for Global Cycle Solutions and What Gives. Contacted Global Cycle Solutions to tell them about AfriGadget.
3/14/10 - Sent my nephew, a young entrepreneur, a link to an interview and a site which assists musicians in marketing through social media
3/17/10 - Signed a Twitter petition put out by The Innocence Project urging the Governor of Texas to delay the execution of an inmate on death row to allow DNA testing that might prove him innocent. Told others about http://act.ly.
3/21/10 - Take the girls shopping to get them supplies for the Mexico mission trip.
3/22/10 - Set up a MyCharity:Water page for World Water Day. Donated my Twitter updates for World Water Week to One Week For Water. Joined TwitCause and sent out a tweet (#planttrees) that will prompt Dryer's and Edy's to donate $1 to the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. Contacted my sisters to let them know about Help-Portrait and A Child's Right as they seem to be organizations that could help for the type of work being done on the Mexican mission trip. Rounded up my dollar at the grocery store (Seward Co-op) for benefit of Minnesota Food Share.
3/23/10 - Got receipt for my charity:water donation and sent it to my employer with paperwork to get matching grant. Sent information to Daily Grommet to let them know about To-Go Ware, suggesting the company as one they might like to highlight. Gave some serious thought to shaving my head for my MyCharityWater Campaign. Um, I'm not quite there yet.
3/24/10 - Spoke with people at church Lentan Souper Supper re: my MyCharityWater Campaign, got their okay to send them emails, so they could donate.
3/25/10 - Sent emails to church friends, retweeted for @twitcause (retweet #Shelter4Kids and Tyler Perry’s #WhyDidIGetMarried2 will donate $1 to CovenantHouse. http://tinyurl.com/WDIGMT). Made little mock up of a well to put on my desk, with slips of paper people could take about my MyCharityWater Campaign. Listened to the State of the Planet 2010 webcast and blogged and tweeted about it. Participated in the Body Shop Lemons into LemonAid campaign to raise money against human trafficking by following @thebodyshopusa and tweeting #lemonaid. Posted widget for blog readers to spread the word about the LemonAid campaign on Dreamwidth and Livejournal.
3/26/10 - Chipped in a little money to help a family who lost everything in a fire. Talked to a coworker about my MyCharityWater Campaign, who suggested I might bring it to the attention of my employer's executive committee, because sometimes they fund larger charitable projects. Printed out press kit, took picture of well conversation starter to prepare pitch. Drive girls to Minnetonka to send them on their way to Mexico. Gave @blondergan of What Gives 365 some advice about using Twitter.
3/28/10 - Purchased the LBD from the Uniform Project. $30 of purchase goes to Akanksha Foundation.
3/29/10 - Talked to two coworkers about my MyCharity:Water campaign and took a contribution from one. Sent the Charity:Water press kit and explanatory e-mail to the person in charge of administering my firm's charitable donations, asking whether they could consider sponsoring my well. Spoke with a neighborhood canvasser for Clean Water Action and added my name to the mailing list and signed their petition. Added @cleanh20action Twitter feed; signed their online petition asking my Congressman to vote to restore the Clean Water Act. E-mailed Uniform Project to ask whether The Ankanksha Fund, Inc. was a 501(c)(3) organization so that my firm would match my donation.

4/1/10 - Sent my dad a number of links and information on water fundraising projects on Twitter.
4/5/10 - Posted another appeal for my MyCharity:Water campaign. Got a few more donations.
4/6/10 - Made a new Kiva loan and posted about it.
4/7/10 - Emailed my sister to suggest an application be made to nominate Mama Lupita (of Casa Hogar Elim) for CNN Hero. Sent emails to the Itawamba County School Board and principal, protesting their actions in the Constance McMillen case. Wrote a post to praise my jeweler's good customer service.
4/8/10 - It's a very small thing, but I bought a plant for my desk at work.
4/11/10 - Took girls to All Saints Church for service concerning the Casa Hogar Elim mission trip
4/12/10 - Sent e-mail to Charity:Water with a couple questions about my MyCharity:Water, in connection with [livejournal.com profile] lavendersleeves's proposed Japan fundraiser.
4/15/10 - Signed Human Rights Campaign petition to send to my Congressman, asking him to support ENDA.
4/19/10 - Brought a couple compact florescent bulbs to the hardware store for recycling.
4/20/10 - Gathered ink toner cartridges for recycling
4/21/10 - Mailed off ink toner cartridges for recycling.
4/24/10 - Drop off books for donation at the local library. Drop off bicycle at repair shop for spring tuneup, in preparation for beginning bicycle commuting May 1.
4/25/10 - Discuss the MyCharity:Water project with several people at church and send follow up emails to ask them to donate.

May:
5/14/10 - Small donation to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (a dapper gentlemen who was selling poppies outside my credit union).
5/19/10 - Put stainless steel drinking straw in my purse, along with my To-Go Ware, so I won't have to take plastic straws when I get iced coffee.
5/20/10 - Sent email to Caribou Coffee website asking whether they might consider selling stainless steel straws. Hey, they sell cloth coffee cup sleeves. Why not straws?

June
6/25/10 - Boosted signal to let people know about The Fresh Air Fund. Sent message to my congressional representatives, asking them to support the Student Non-Discrimination Act by signing the petition here.

July

August
8/9/10 - Sent email to the plaintiffs in Perry vs. Schwarzenegger, thanking them for their role in overturning Proposition 8.
8/11/10 - Did a post in homage to the ten aid workers for International Assistance Mission who were killed in Afghanistan. Because sometimes tribute simply must be paid.
8/12/10 - Donated one of my vacation days to a coworker who is taking time off for her husband's hospice care. Gave coupon to two coworkers for a few bucks off coffee.

September
9/2/10 - Boosted signal for [livejournal.com profile] cloudscudding's mom by pointing people to "The Circus of Brass and Bone."
9/14/10 - Sent a note to a friend who had a stroke.
9/25/10 - Made a new Kiva loan to a woman in the Philippines who will use the money for her rice farming, food vending and livestock businesses. Boosted signal for the November Apex Magazine idea of [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna.
9/27/10 - Had lunch with a friend, discussed her ideas for non-profit focussing on global poverty. Sent her information on twitter and its usefulness for networking re: social media, non-profits.
9/30/10 - Signed Human Rights Campaign petition to Congress urging support for the Uniting American Families Act.

October
10/1/10 - Boosted signal for World Habitat Day.
10/17/10 - Boosted signal on the "It Gets Better Broadway" initiative in conjunction with the Trevor Project. Contacted Nate at It Starts With Us to see about getting help for [livejournal.com profile] jemyl, perhaps making her a love bomb candidate, in response to this post here.
10/18/10 - Pointed people toward [livejournal.com profile] jemyl's jewelry business to try to help her stave off financial troubles. Asked others to boost signal.


November
11/1/10 - Signed the Harry Potter Alliance Petition to ask Warner Brothers to switch to Fair Trade Chocolate. Boosted signal on Dreamwidth, Livejournal, Facebook and Twitter.


December
12/2/10 - Boosted signal about the HP Alliance's Second Horcrux campaign (Depression), sent email to HP Alliance regarding my patronus and the Decrease Worldsuck project.
12/22/10 - Funded a Kiva loan to a baker in El Salvador.
