The shoulder length hair is a good choice. You can always grow it out. I'd also recommend considering the option of hi-lites if you have(or know of) a good hairstylist that'll work with you on some options. I've changed my hair style various times in the last decade and most new styles have received very good responses. Variation in hair-style has also really helped me feel like I'm keeping a fresh and vital look.
I also think you've got a much more vibrant and alive look without your glasses. You've mentioned you have new and smaller glasses, so it is hard to gauge accurately how you look now with them. Glasses are a big deal in my opinion(I have three different sets, depending on mood, clothes and occasion) and can easily make or break your look. If you're willing to post a more recent pic of you with your new glasses, I'd be happy to give my input. But the glasses in the pics you've shown detract from the beauty of your face(though not so much that you should be self-conscious or anything).
All in all, physical looks are a trivial thing and yet I can be a vain creature, spending too much money on clothes and hair-products. I do think that not feeling good about yourself physically can really do damage to your self-esteem. I also don't think you have much to worry about from the pictures you've posted; you're a good looking lady and I can say that without reservation.
Anyway, I hope you don't mind my comments and criticisms.
