[livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson wrote a good entry about writing, and how to arrange your life to do it. And . . . and . . .

I know all this stuff.

I just have to decide what to do about it. And then do it.

Argh.

Do I want to be a writer or not? Why am I hesitating to make the commitment to invest the butt-on-the-chair time and do the fricking work?

My muse needs a leash and a choke chain. She keeps wandering off and reading instead of writing. Only problem is, she'd probably be so pissed at me if I tried it that she'd never cough up another page.

Not that she's giving me much right now.

V. crabby and tense, thinking about this. But I think I'm on the cusp of a renewed commitment to writing. Even if all I produce is dreck. Minicon's coming up. Maybe that has something to do with it.

What's your fear fantasy? That will tell you what's getting in your way.

Probably because it's scary. It's scary to put out so much of yourself, and to wonder if you have it in you; to make a commitment to embark on a project and see it to the end; you probably remembered what this entailed for your previous novels - sometimes knowing what's coming makes it harder. I also recall you've worried about having to live up to EHR and WS.

I have much MUCH smaller writing projects facing me (I signed up for two fic challenges), but I have still been paralysed by fear. I haven't even *tried* to write - I let everything else take precedence.
