Inhuman heat and humidity
Jul. 19th, 2011 10:17 amWe have window air conditioners in Rob's and my room and Delia's room (but not in poor Fiona's). The heat index is supposed to get up to 115 today (the dewpoint's in the 70s). It's just been brutal. We didn't go to sparring last night, even though the karate school's airconditioned. Just felt too logey and lethargic to go. The downstairs isn't too bad at least; we've been keeping the blinds drawn. Thinking of what to cook is very difficult (especially since my family's so damn picky).
My lobelia hanging basket has died. I think the heat has just been too much for it. It's mostly brown and it can't seem to retain water; the water just runs right through immediately without soaking in. I have hanging tomato plants that are fruiting, and they seem to be doing okay for now.
The heat's supposed to linger on through the week. I have to resign myself to not getting anything done. I can usually tolerate heat much better than Rob can (which often results in fights over how high to set the bedroom air conditioner), but even I am finding this stretch of weather difficult.
