One of my attorneys gave me a book store gift certificate for Secretary's Professional Support Staff day. Heh heh, he knows me so well.

I have purchased: The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde, The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler, and Splintered Light: Logos and Language in Tolkien's World by Verlyn Flieger. *Bounce bounce*

Oh, that reminds me: [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson, while I'm thinking of it, could you please bring the Thomas Shippey book Author of the Century back when you come up to visit me next week? I've wanted to consult it a lot in the last month. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to reading the Fowler once the local library's hold system gets around to me. If you've time, I'd love to see what you think of the book....

It'll show up on my book list in the next month or two, and I'll give my comments then. I'm looking forward to reading it very much.

I really loved Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair. The next two books in the series are equally fun. They are especially fun for those of us who read a lot and therefore are likely to catch all the literary references. Enjoy!

Jasper Fforde writes the ultimate books for book geeks; I'd be surprised if you didn't like him. And I'm impatiently waiting to read Fowler's book until the end of the semester, but I've heard naught but excellent things about it thus far and I too would be interested in eventually reading your thoughts.

Good choices :D

a new Fowler book! be still my beating heart! I'm in the middle of the 3rd Jasper Fforde book and while I loved The Eyre Affair, I'm actually not sure yet that I'd recommend the 2 sequels.

I just finished The Well of Lost Plots, third in the "Thursday Next" series begun in The Eyre Affait. I cruised through the three books fairly rapidly, and had fun doing so. There were moments when I laughed out loud! Especially the first book, when there is simple delight in the newness of what Jasper Fforde is doing. The more of the "classics" you know, the more fun you'll have. (For copyright reasons he mostly stays away from more "modern" books.)
