Good news: We had a great dinner last night with minnehaha B and K at Fhima's in St. Paul. Good food, good company.

The dumpster is now about 2/3 full. Wow. And I was feeling stupid, thinking I'd gotten one too big, but we're really probably going to fill it.

I was kicking myself for not fitting a workout in today, but then I thought of all those boxes I've lifted, and my pedometer says 16752 steps (close to 9 miles now), so then I realized: no guilt.

Bad news: kijjohnson woke up this morning with vertigo, and it got so bad that I've taken her to the ER. She's still there, and the vertigo has worsened to the point that nausea set in; she lost her lunch. It seems to be an inner ear disturbance, but they're going to be giving her a CAT scan, just to rule out, you know, even ickier things. I'm about to head back to the ER now.

Brava on the dumpster-filling extravaganza. How fabulous to be getting through so much stuff and doing all that sorting and throwing-outing and everything else along the way. Not easy work, not at all.

I had this 3 years ago--I woke up from a deep sleep because it felt like the bed was spinning.

The most common fast-onset vertigo is viral and usually disappears within 2 weeks. (Sometimes they won't treat you for the first 2 weeks, because they figure it's this, and the viral kind isn't treatable.)

The second most common kind will likely be ruled out by the CT scan, or an MRI. (That would be a brain tumor.) (After my MRI I went around for weeks telling people I was the only person they knew who was certified free of brain tumors.)

If it's not one of those, it's probably benign positional vertigo. Some of the crystals in the part of her ear that help with gravity and balance are in the wrong place. There is a non-invasive, non-drug procedure that helped me when this happened to me 3 years ago; the neurologist in town who specializes in vertigo performed it on me. Basically he slapped me around! That is, he made abrupt positional changes to my torso (and thence my head) to shake the crystals back into the right place. (Then I had to sit upright for 24 hours, and avoid inversions -- like roller coasters -- for the next year.) Worked a treat, too.

i have labyrinthitis, on and off, and i take meclizine for it. doesn't make it totally go away, but it makes it tolerable.

I occasionally have a recurrence, usually due to ear blockage from a cold or allergies. I've always got meclizine in the house, now.

But right now, the last two weeks or so, is the first time in a long time that I've been completely free of dizziness. (It came back strongly from flying to Jamaica in February.) Even when I lie down on the affected side--no symptoms! It's been wonderful.

I had an onset of labrynthitis when I made a flight to Oregon 4 months ago. It made me very ill. When I would turn my head quickly I would get wierd eye movements and a feeling of falling for about 4 seconds. Afterwards for the rest of the day I would have extreme dizziness.
They put me on Meclizine and Valium and it subsided the symptoms enough to make the flight back home to Arizona.

When I got home I experienced the dizziness for about two or three weeks off and on and then they subsided enough so I could live my life with some quality. I have found that drinking caffeine, alcohol and high sodium makes the symptoms worse. I suppose that they are enough of a stimulant to bring on the symptoms.

I had a reoccurence of the same terrible symptoms that I initially had two days ago. I cannot lay on my right side nor turn to that side while sitting up. I can't eat very much because of the nausea.

I went to a doctor here who examined me and said that it was benign labrynthitis and then ordered a contrast cat scan, which I had yesterday 6/4/04. I will see a ENT (ear, nose & throat specialist) on Monday after they see the results of the Cat Scan.

Like you I hope there is a cure. Alot of times I think that the medical community is as much at a loss then we are. I struggle with anything that makes life so debilitating being called benign.
