I'm in Georgia!
Nov. 7th, 2003 06:15 pmI wasn't able to post about it earlier because it was a surprise for my Dad's 75th birthday and he reads my LiveJournal, but my two sisters and I flew to Georgia to surprise him for his 75th birthday. Mom just told him he had to be ready to leave the house at 12:45 and drove him to the airport. The look on his face when we walked up was priceless.
And there's another surprise coming in about an hour that he doesn't know about yet: Mom's is going to a different airport in about an hour to pick up my brother, who is flying in from New York, which means that for the first time in 17 years, all four of us are going to be here with my parents in Georgia at the same time. Our respective spouses are holding down the forts with our offspring. This weekend is for Mom, Dad, and the four of us alone.
Already it's been a terrific amount of fun. Cindy has a great sense of humor, and has been having a lot of fun teasing Dad. "Actually, we just came down to divide up the estate. We'll go around and put post-it notes on the stuff we want to keep, and the guys with the moving truck will be here at midnight. You'll be out of here by five o'clock tomorrow. We plan to knock down the house and build something palatial that we can use as our winter home away from home, for when Minnesota gets too cold, you know."
"And what's going to happen to us?" Dad asked, a grin pulling at his face.
"Oh, we don't want you to know that ahead of time; we think that you would find it too upsetting."
We're going to a symphony concert tomorrow night (Mom has played cello for over sixty years, so classical music is very important to my family) and we'll be taking them out to dinner. Otherwise, it will just be the six of us holed up, yakking non-stop. It was about 12 degrees Fahrenheit in Minnesota this morning, and it's 75 degrees here in Georgia.
We plan to have a wonderful time.
