pegkerr: (Both the sweet and the bitter)
A stick of horseradish, a bottle of mint-sauce well corked, a bottle of salad dressing, a bottle of vinegar, made of mustard, pepper, salt, good oil, and pounded sugar. If it can be managed, take a little ice. It is scarcely necessary to say that plates, tumblers, wine-glasses, knives, forks, and spoons, must not be forgotten; as also teacups and saucers, 3 or 4 teapots, some lump sugar, and milk, if this last-named article cannot be obtained in the neighborhood. Take 3 corkscrews. BEVERAGES - 3 dozen quart bottles of ale, packed in hampers; ginger-beer, soda water, and lemonade, of each 2 dozen bottles; 6 bottles of sherry, 6 bottles of claret, champagne, and any other light wine that may be preferred, and 2 bottles of brandy. Water can usually be obtained; so it is useless to take it.

Isabella Beeton, from "Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management"
(1859-1861)

Got this from the Last Morsel section of my daily e-mail from World Wide Recipes.

Edited to add: And here's the whole book!
pegkerr: (I told no lies and of the truth all I co)
Words: 711
Reason for stopping: It's a half hour past my bedtime.
Mood: Um. Words. Actual words. That sort of follow one after the other. Wow. Who knew?
Notes: I still don't know what the hell I'm doing with this book. I mean, I have chunks of the plot, but am still suspicious that they will not add up to something that achieves its own activation energy. I think it's that this is the first book I've attempted to do with this write - all - over - the - book - and - piece - it - together - afterwards method, rather than going beginning to end. I don't yet trust the process. And it's been such a long time since I've written a book. And I've sort of kind of thought of an ending, but haven't yet decided whether it's too stupid for words. This makes me twitchy. So: glad that I got words out tonight, but even though Lois has told me it's a book, I still don't quite believe it yet.
