The bat that got into our house night before last is not going to be a repeat offender because despite Rob's care, it seemed to have died of shock; it was still sitting in the juice container on top of the garbage can yesterday.

However . . .

I went to bed last night at 10:15--and woke up at 10:37 because a bat was flying over my head.

THESE BATS ARE TOTALLY UNAUTHORIZED!!!

Rob heard the screams more quickly this time and got rid of this one, too (fortunately, Delia did not wake for all the excitement). He walked it about a block and a half away as it swore at him, and he told it to live long and catch lots of mosquitoes but to NOT COME BACK.

It occurred to me, while reading the end of Part One of Silverlock, where Silverlock, when urged by Golias, reluctantly agrees to help Lucius Jones, but only because he is aware that the hero Beowulf was listening in on the conversation, and he [Silverlock] didn't want to be seen as less willing to risk danger to help someone, that it would be lovely to have a bracelet that reads:

What Would Beowulf Do?

I was going to write a long and insightful post about Ibsen's A Doll's House, prompted by reading this article. But I'm too tired. But I will say this: in my AP English class in high school, my English teacher Mr. Hunt gave us an assignment to write a fourth act of A Doll's House: what happens to Nora next?

When Emerald House Rising was published, I contacted all my high school English teachers and sent them copies with a thank you letter. (Really, all four of them were kick-ass inspirational, and I owe them a lot, least of all a thank you letter.) And Mr. Hunt astounded me by faxing me a copy of my version of the fourth act of A Doll's House. He had liked it so much that he had kept it as a sample for students to see when he was handing out this assignment, and he had been passing it out to them for twenty years. He said he felt smug that he knew I was special as a writer even then.

So . . . if you had to write the fourth act of A Doll's House, what do you think happens to Nora next?

Just think: Ibsen fanfiction. *boggles*
