My dear friend [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson broke her leg climbing last night. She called me from the hospital but had to cut the call off as she is still dealing with being at the hospital. It's her fibula, near the knee, and she has a sprained ankle as well. She's going to need a full leg cast. She was worried because her gym just replaced the pea gravel with mats, which she considered much less safe. And now this happens.

Dammit, dammit, dammit, I wish I could BE there to help her.

Edited to add: [livejournal.com profile] arian1 updates here that it turns out it's the tibia, and not the fibula as Kij said when we spoke previously. This is good news, as apparently it means a smaller cast, but she still has a long recovery ahead of her. She's heading home (after groceries), so watch for updates on her own journal.

I have [livejournal.com profile] bekkio to thank for introducing me to the Irish and Celtic Music podcast (banner below), a free, bi-monthly, downloadable radio show of independent Irish & Celtic music. You can subscribe through iTunes. It includes Irish drinking songs, Scottish folk songs, bagpipes, music from Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Wales, Nova Scotia, Galacia, Australia, the United States, and around the world. I set up a syndicated feed for it today: [livejournal.com profile] irishceltmusic.

Anyway, I was listening to episode #39 today, and a song came up, "My Father is a Werewolf," by a Finnish group from Helsinki that plays Irish music and music with Irish Influences, the Redhill Rats. I really liked that song, and heck, it reminded me of [insert gratuitous Harry Potter reference here] Teddy Lupin, so I went Googling for more information. And I found this iSound page, where you can download twenty-one of their songs for free, including "My Father is a Werewolf." I really like them! [re: "My Father is a Werewolf": the singer's father sounds more like Fenris Greyback than Remus Lupin, but still, check it out and let me know if you like.] I believe these are authorized free downloads since the page offers a way to contact the band (if you have an iSound login, that is, but you don't have to have one to download).

(Hey, [livejournal.com profile] lollardfish! Check out their rendition of the song "Tramps and Hawkers.")

Have any of you heard of the Redhill Rats before?

Twice-monthly Celtic and Irish music by the best independent Celtic music groups. Irish drinking songs, Scottish folk songs, bagpipes, music from Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Wales, Nova Scotia, Galacia, Australia and the United States. Hosted by Marc Gunn of the Brobdingnagian Bards.
