Guys, I was so heartsick yesterday that I went away from the computer yesterday afternoon and last night, and I've just now found out what the friends on my friends list have been busily doing on my family's behalf. Believe me, I didn't make my post yesterday with any such object in mind.

You've been so generous to us in the past, so this was truly kindness unlooked for. Thank you--we couldn't have come close to replacing the bikes without this, and now we will be able to. Thanks in particular to serene (serenejournal) for organizing this on our behalf.

I don't want to always be taking. I hope that what I do in my own life (and in this journal) will pay it forward many times over. Anyway, you can all check this off for your 'decrease worldsuck' contribution for the day.

P.S.: We'll probably hold off on buying new bikes, about a month or so, in the hopes that the Minneapolis Police Department might pick the bikes up (we've turned in their serial numbers, and they say they pick up bikes every day). We'll also keep an eye on Craig's list, in case the tortfeasors try to turn a profit on them over there.

Dinner last night

To get my mind off my heartache about the bikes last night, I set out to re-create a delicious dinner I'd had at the Birchwood Cafe last week. The end result wasn't quite as pretty (I don't have quite the knack for plating food that they do) but it was a definite hit. The family rated it 9 out of 10:

Dinner Green beans, tomato, Risotto made with Arborio rice, fresh sweet corn, Canadian bacon (prosciutto was too expensive!)

My gosh, I felt like the biggest wimp on record. I could barely finish this; I had to go into the downward dog position several times to avoid collapsing into a heap on the floor. And this was just the very. first. day. Argh.
