because I've been nursing a headache. It's not bad, really, usually just a 1 or 2 on a scale of 10. It's worse in the mornings. I did have to take analgesics today.
This weekend was a wonder: perfectly clear blue skies and unseasonably warm. I was at the Diamonds National karate tournament with Fiona on Saturday. I was supposed to judge, but they had enough, so I worked as a scorekeeper/timekeeper, rather to my relief. Fiona competed, but didn't place. She was resigned: this is a really tough national tournament, and everyone sends their creme de la creme performers. We watched the finals in the evening, which dazzled and impressed, as always. Here's a promotional video which gives you an idea of the sorts of things you can see at the Diamonds. [
Raymond Daniels (Mr. Cartwheel) was just as annoying as ever, although that didn't stop him from winning the heavyweight Superfight. Again.]
Otherwise this weekend, I spent balancing my checkbook, raking leaves, doing laundry, and putting a second coat of paint on the trim on the garage. It felt good to be outside, and to check off a number of tasks that have been niggling at me. Delia went to her school's homecoming game and dance, and ended up spending the night over at a friend's. She had a great time. Fiona, after the tournament, struggled with sleepiness for much of the weekend.
She's interviewing with the recruiter for Reed College today. Wish her luck. That's the only college she's seriously looking at outside the midwest at this point.
Finally, I want to join the many others offering condolences to the Brust family and friends mourning the unexpected passing of Reen Brust. Rob knew her rather better than me, but Reen's been a fixture of Minneapolis fandom for over three decades.
