That was...unusual
Jul. 23rd, 2012 07:07 pmRob gave me a check to deposit in my account at my credit union, because I was going to have trouble making it to the end of the month. I stopped by the credit union in the drive up lane, endorsed the check, and put it with my drivers license into the pneumatic carrier tube and sent it to the teller.
I waited. The car in the next lane was dealt with and left, and the car behind that was dealt with and left.
After ten minutes had gone by, I called the teller. "Is there a problem with my deposit?"
The teller's face on the small monitor looked blank. "Um. We didn't receive anything from you, ma'am."
"Well, I sent you a check for $160.00. And my driver's license."
"Just a minute, ma'am." A hissing noise came from the tube. "Did the carrier tube reappear?"
"No." I felt my heart sink. "You have my driver's license."
More fiddling. No, they couldn't get the tube to reappear. My check, and my driver's license is stuck somewhere in the credit union's pneumatic machinery. While I had waited in line, the manager had left for the day and the credit union had closed. Nothing can be done until tomorrow.
I will call them tomorrow. Good grief, I hope the police don't have any cause to stop me tomorrow. Because as excuses go for not having your driver's license on you, that one sounds pretty feeble.
And I'm still short the money in my account. Which I really, really need. Dammit.
Edited to add: They extricated the check and the drivers license this morning. The check has been deposited and the license is back in my wallet--I went to pick it up over my lunch hour.
