Delia remains fragile. She had a doctor's appointment on Monday, simply an annual check up, although because of the suspicion of lice, they skipped the hearing test, for fear of contaminating the headphones. She did get an MMR shot, however, since we'd inexplicably missed the second one when she was in kindergarten. She was so upset over this ("I already got my blood drawn this month! You can't make me get a shot, too!") that she actually got down off the examination table and wedged herself between the table and the wall, and it took quite a bit of coaxing (and a certain amount of strong-arm tactics) to get her out of there. She wept hard, and we called in another nurse to help, but she managed to stay still for the shot. We consoled her with two brighty colored stickers afterward.

She lost it again tonight when I was doing the umpteenth comb out and head check. Her feelings are quite clear: enough is enough.

That's why all the lovely get well and wish-her-well cards from online friends we received today in the mailbox were particularly well-timed. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] wintercreek, Beth (and Sam), [livejournal.com profile] sartorias, [livejournal.com profile] rachet, [livejournal.com profile] sociofemme, [livejournal.com profile] dustybinx, and of course, all those of the Random Stranger brigade: [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin, [livejournal.com profile] matociquala, [livejournal.com profile] mizkit, [livejournal.com profile] mrissa, and [livejournal.com profile] palinade--we wear the necklaces, and think of you with gratitude.

Today was the first day of school. There has been no sign of lice for three days now.

The first of the doctor's statements has arrived in the mail. We're waiting to hear how much of it insurance will cover. Gulp. An awful lot of it, I hope.

Hopefully, things are starting to return to normal.
