Great conversation with Powers
Oct. 3rd, 2004 01:52 amMy day shaped up a little differently than I expected. I cut a deal with the girls where I agreed to take them to the informational meeting on girl scouts for Delia, if they would come with me to the con so I could join the one hour discussion on Powers' work. They sat in the back of the room and read books and I joined the discussion; I was really glad to be there. Then we left, but the extra karate class we were supposed to attend was cancelled because the teacher was ill. And then a friend called Fiona and Delia and asked them to come over for a play date, and the mother said, "Sure, they can stay for dinner."
So I headed back to the convention and stayed there for the evening. I joined a big group going out for dinner to Famous Dave's for ribs. The was an auction held after dinner. I was definitely not interested in the offerings (mostly horror books and movies; not my taste) and it went on for an unbelieveably long time. Tim and and Serena and I escaped eventually and sat in the hotel lobby and talked, and we were quickly joined by others. The conversation rambled over a wide variety of topics, but by the end of the evening, Powers and I got over in a corner and had a great one-on-one conversation. I'll keep it private between us, but I found it enormously reassuring to hear him say, "No, you're not the only one who feels that way." We agreed we'd like to keep in closer touch, and I do intend to follow up and do that.
I said good bye to them at the end of the evening; I won't be back to the con tomorrow. There's a lot of cleaning up around the house that needs to be done, and I can't be at the con if I have to bully Fiona into doing her homework.

Date: 2004-10-04 04:51 am (UTC)I have a question on the care & feeding of book editors, but I'd rather not ask it her (I'm the third party here...) Would it work better if I sent it to you via your website?
Thanks.
