Both fair and perilous

Barbie as Galadriel. Urk. Somehow, this makes me cringe; can't quite explain why.
Edited to add:
heinous_bitca has informed me of this, which is equally as bad. *Shudder*
Second edit: I am, of course, rather a howling hypocrite to object.

Date: 2004-10-11 12:52 pm (UTC)Barbie as Galadriel, though, looks too much like Barbara Eden from I Dream of Jeanie. And what is this stretch-mesh stuff her dress is made out of? I'd expect the real Galadriel to be wearing something made of soft wool or silk.
Still, I agree with

Well, how about...
Date: 2004-10-11 05:09 pm (UTC)In my opinion the most "What Where They Thinking??" Barbie was the Civil War Nurse Barbie (which did not come with severed, gangrenous limbs as accessories).
It reduced me to utter, hysterical laughter in the middle of F.A.O. Schwartz...
alternatively...
Date: 2004-10-12 06:17 am (UTC)look! let's encourage our daughters not only to have unattainable ideals of 'beauty' and thus nurture low self-esteem, but let's also teach them to only want arrogant, controlling men who can't seem to keep their sexual urges under control (and who have powerful thighs).
ahem. yeah. i mean, legolas ken might at least encourage them to pick up tolkien. and if young girls obsesss about him, they're at least obsessing about someone with honor and integrity and who knows how to be a nice guy. raider ken...? not so much.
not that i've read the deveraux novel, i must admit. but i've read my share of bodice rippers... i don't like the stereotypes they all seem to include. as i have no doubt made more than clear already. =)
