Here's an appalling story I got from [livejournal.com profile] anglachel1. Are you a Democrat who thinks you've registered to vote? Well, you may be in for rude surprise on Election Day.

Minnesota has election day registration, so the foul deeds done by these people can be un-done in Minnesota on November 2.

To register in Minnesota on election day, go to your polling place. (If you don't know where yours is, go to any, and they'll give you the address of yours.) Bring ID with current address, a utility bill with currrent address, or a neighbor with ID or who is register to vote in that precinct and who will vouch for you. Register. Vote. Yay!

Q. Can I register to vote on election day?

A. You can register at your polling place on election day. You will need one of the following to verify your residence.

Minnesota driver’s license, learner’s permit, identification card, or receipt for one, with your current address,
Tribal ID where authorized, with your current address

If the Minnesota license or ID has a former address, you may bring a recent utility bill* to use with your license

“Notice of Late Registration” postcard

U.S. passport with utility bill*

U.S. military photo ID card with utility bill*

Someone who is registered in the precinct where you live who will vouch for your residence

If you are a student, you can use...

Student ID, registration, or fee statement with your current address

Student photo ID with utility bill*

Student ID if you are on a student housing list on file at the polling place

* Note: The utility bill must have your name, current address, and be due within 30 days of the election. Utility bills may be for electric, gas, water, solid waste, sewer, telephone, or cable TV.

At least in our town, the registry of voters sends out a postcard to each and every registered voter before the election, giving the proper polling place for your precinct and asking you to make sure your address is correct.

(We got three of them this morning, which tells me they haven't caught up with Younger Son's change of residence to New Hampshire. Maybe he should vote twice....)

Thanks for posting this. It's seems to be one more example of how contentious this whole election is and will continue to be long after it's over.

Good God. This just confirms for me that along with the threat of canceling the election completely that the Republicans have been throwing around the RNC will stop at ABSOLUTELY NOTHING dirty or underhanded to "win" this election. What happened in Florida last time was nothing compared to the lengths I believe they are prepared to go to now. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like, but it's clear from this article that we only know a very small part of the dirty dealing that's taking place in the Republican camp.

The Republicans are obviously afraid that they can't win by playing fair. I'm getting more and more frightened as the election approaches. :: sigh :: I SO did not sign on to live in a police state run by Dubya, Dictator for Life...

You know, it's been a while... Does Minnesota ask for party affiliation when one registers to vote? I can't recall. My brother (in ND) was peeved that he couldn't register to vote as a Republican, so who knows.

Frankly, if my party affiliation were asked, I'd have to say it was "Obdurate Asshole."

(Just did a spell check on this, and have to admit that "Aberrant Asshole" sounds pretty good...)
