Got this tip from the Dollar Stretcher e-mail newsletter this morning:
When you are going to make a purchase from a website, first go to Google and search "promotion code" or "coupon code" and the name of the store. You will get sites that track current codes that you can enter. For example, for Coldwater Creek, you might find a code for $5 off a $25 purchase and another for $15 off a $75 purchase. Take your pick depending on what you are spending.

There are often codes available for JC Penney, Target, Land's End, and many other online retailers. If I need one specific item from the weekly ad, it often saves me money to purchase
that item online even if I have to pay shipping (which I often get free by searching for a code). Not only do I save gas, but I also don't buy impulse items.
I knew enough to check Dealcatcher and some other coupon sites, but I hadn't thought to use Google to do the search for me. Duh.

The problem is that advertisers know you're going to run this search, so a lot of the results are lousy. Sigh. Sometimes it works for me, though.
