I'm still sick, and this house is driving me mad. I hate living with Agents of Chaos. I am going to start burning things.

I find it necessary to note that fire, being somewhat chaotic itself, is not a very discriminate method of clearing unwanted objects.

May I suggest a good sword?

Well, that's the point. I'm not feeling discriminatory. I'm feeling DESTRUCTIVE!

Oh, I get that. By all means, destruct away!

Being the not-cranky one in the conversation, I urge you to express your destructive nature in ways you will not later regret when the fire consumes things like hard drives that hold the beginnings of novels.

You might try my mom's method for dealing with Agents of Chaos (AoC).

- Inform AoC that if they do not put their stuff away, it will disappear for (you decide how long). As I recall my mom started with a day and added days until I got up to a week. I'm a slow learner.

- AoC are responsible for explaining why they don't have the missing items. ("I'm sorry sensei, I left my gi where it doesn't belong and I won't have it for *specified time*") They also have to deal with not having their stuff.

- Gather the misplaced belongings

- Put them in a box

- Put the box away

- AoC do not get there belongs back until the specified return date.

For a while my mom had to have several boxes with different return dates on them. I remember trying to blame a missing text book on my mom's unreasonable behavior. "I would have the book, but my mom put it in a box and won't give it back". No one backs an AoC in trying to put the responsibility on mom...ever.

Car crusher might be better -- less chance of unwanted destruction mixed with your wanted destruction, and still satisfying. And when you're through, all the Excess Stuff is in a tidy cube!

And you can put a sheet of glass on it and turn it into a lovely (and useful) end table!

And then put that box in a box, and put *that* box in *another* box, and then mail it to myself, and SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER! A HA HA HAHAHAHAHAH!

Sorry about letting out my inner Yzma. I need a vacation very badly.

I know that feeling. I have only one AoC in residence, but he's had nearly 50 years to perfect his technique. My signal is when I begin to fantasize about running away to a little town where no one knows me and getting a simple job, a simple AND UNCLUTTERED apartment, and never having a meaningful conversation ever again. This means it's time to declutter the house.

I think, upon sober reflection, that it's altogether a really good thing that there's pretty much 0.0 chance of our ever living together.

I love having things neat and organized and simple. I very, very, /very/ rarely produce such conditions, however.

Aren't you glad I live about 2000 miles away from you, you'll never have to see my apartment, and my lifestyle has no effect on you at all?
