Mansfield Park by whats-er-name Austen. Yeah. You've heard of her, right? First time read--are you kidding??? Nope, a re-read

Letters to Alice on First Reading Jane Austen by Fay Weldon. Re-read.

Anubis Gates by Tim Powes. Re-read.

Emerald House Rising. I forget the author's name. Uh, re-read.

Am now reading The Lays of Beleriand, by J.R.R. Tolkien. I'm embarrassed to admit this one's a first time read. Actually, I'm savoring it, sipping little bits of it, taking it very slowly.

That's it for the month. So few on the list that I'm embarrassed. But hey, there's been the Big Trial, meaning overtime, and shingles, meaning mind-numbing drugs. And also reading lots of unpublished stuff, which doesn't get to go on this list.

I also note that I seem to have gone for comfort reads here. And the new book is by my favorite author. Hmm, a clue. I've been feeling stressed.

I'm rather an Austen newbie -- I read Mansfield Park for the first time this year, and I loved it. It wouldn't have been nearly as funny if my class hadn't read and discussed Anne Radcliffe's The Romance of the Forest first. Hurrah for parody. :)

Isn't The Lays of Beleriand wonderful? I read it the summer after 7th grade and tried to write my own versions of the stories, long before I knew of such things as fandom or fanfic.

*hugs*

This one made me giggle this morning. I hear the author of this one has a great new idea for a story. Something about an architect and an ice palace? Sounds like a great book and I hope the characters get motivated to tell the author their story. Is it hard to tell a winter story when it's starting to warm up? Of course it's warming up here, not so sure about where you are.

Good luck with Big Trial, and shingles and lice and you're just not having a good year so far. Here's hoping the second quarter will improve.

It has been feeling like the twelve plagues of Egypt around here lately. *Sigh*

I'm not giving up on the book. But Right Now I'm not working on it. I think, given what's been going on for me lately, this is probably forgiveable. For the moment.

I'd re-read Emerald House Rising, but I no longer have a copy (very long story). My bookstore keeps telling me it's out of print. *sigh*
