about a very little thing that you are really really fussy about.

Ahem. Now that I'm getting older, I'm starting to get some bristly hair growing on my chin. I have a pair of tweezers in my desk drawer at work, and the instant I feel the slightest bristle, I take 'em out and yank out the hair. I don't let any of them grow more than a smidgen.

My big fear is someday I will be 85 and my hands will be so shaky I'll be unable to capture them anymore.

I compulsively straighten piles of books such that the edges and corners line up, also books on shelves and so on. papersky is really very forbearing about this.

Recently I've gotten fussy about my upper lip. I don't have a lady 'stache or anything, but the skin there is a little bit darker than the rest of my face. It happened because, as part of my morning applying-sunscreen regimine, I missed my upper lip before going and spending time outside ... and now the discrepency drives me nuts.

Ever after, I am being UBER careful about it.

I hate it when people pile fragments of pie on top of the pie crust. I want my pie crust to be non-soggy. If you have sliced me a piece of cobbler, you can put the extra fruit on the side. Thank you.

That reminds me of my aunt Kath, who has begged her daughters to promise that if she gets senile and can't see to waxing her own lip, they won't let her be one of those little old mustachioed Italian ladies in a nursing home. Maybe when your girls get older, you will have to extract tweezer promises of them.

I am really, really, really particular about who can touch the hair right above my ears. It's slightly finer than the rest of my hair, and it's weirdly sensitive. I don't care about having my hair petted by friends in general, or having little kids use it as climbing rope as they scale Mt. Mris. I don't have any problems with getting my hair cut or braided or whatever in general. But for the hair above my ear and slightly to the front of that, I have to actively repress the urge to punch people if they touch it and are not extremely, extremely emotionally close with me. Unfortunately, this is the bit that tends to escape braids first, and the bit my aunties think ought to be a little tendril curl, and then I have to force myself to be a civilized adult.

Hilariously, I am also completely obsessive about chin hairs. I never seem to have tweezers around when I find them, either, so I'll try in vain to capture them with my fingernails. I have callouses on my fingertips because of this.

I'm fussy about all kinds of little things: from the positions of knick-knacks on shelves, to the quality of a tone when singing, to the way certain color combinations look together, to spelling and grammar mistakes (despite my own.)

What's funny to me is that I can be so fussy about my concerns and care relatively little about some things that other people fuss over.

Cupboards and drawers that have been left slightly open. I walk around the house closing them, only to come back a few minutes later and find that someone has left one open again. Drives me nuts.

I cannot sleep with any part of me near or over the edge of the bed. I just can't. Because there are monsters under my bed, and they leave me alone, but if I tempt them like that... well, they're monsters, you know?

I am afraid of ending up old and unable to take care of myself. As I don't have children and never will now, I wonder if I'll end up as one of those pathetic people in a nursing home somewhere, desperate for any sort of company.

I've been yanking chin hair out since college. I'm only thirty! I'm really fussy about it, too, because it's just so ANNOYING to prop my chin on my hands and feel this bristly thing there. And of course they have to be very, very dark. GAH!

I get very, very annoyed by people who are not walking fast and block my path. I'm a naturally fast walker, and I can't stand it when I can't MOVE. I do get impatient when people get in my way, but I don't think my walking fast is impatience in itself. I just enjoy the feeling of it. It's energizing.

Ooh! Fast-walking. I'm a fast-walker, too, unless I am at the zoo or some such, but when I am trying to get from one place to another, GET OUT OF MY WAY! Same for driving. There is no reason to be in the far left lane going 30mph in a 45 zone. Drive on the right if you're not in a hurry! Once someone invents the teleporter, 90% of my daily aggravation will be cured.

I also hate bristly chin hair, and super-long arm hairs. I will occasionally get a hair on my arm whose aspirations are to rival my head hair and/or visit China without me. These must die.

Laundry. I think I'm normal, but everyone else tells me I'm insane. It has to be sorted JUST SO:

Underwear and PJs
Towels
Lights
Darks
Jeans and Slacks
Socks

Particularly the socks- I have never had athlete's foot and I freaked out years and years ago when my ex developed it, and I never again will allow socks to be washed with any other article of clothing. I don't like just grouping my jeans with the darks, because, jeans are heavier, usually dirtier and I don't want them to hurt my blouses for work.

Toe hair. I have little hairs on my big toes and I pluck them out whenever I see them.

Desktop icons. I hate having my computer cluttered with icons and folders so I have folders within folders within folders within folders ad infinitum.

Spelling. Drives me crazy. When I read email at work, I have to suppress the urge to email people back to point out their spelling mistakes.

I'm with you on the chin hair. It's why I own 4 pairs of the splinter tweezers - those are the best for snagging it at the earliest possible time. I've been doing it for so long, that I know which ones are going to be extra pesky, and which ones I have to wait until they've grown a bit before I can tackle it.

I cannot stand when people walk behind me. Not even close behind, but even a few feet behind. I don't know why, but it drives me insane. My psychologist once said it probably had to do with a feeling of invasion of space. Which is probably true because i don't like anyone standing close to me either.

i also have a weird thing about my feet. i DO NOT like them to be touched and I hate it when they are dirty or cold.

I can't stand to be touched by feet that have socks on them. I'm just appalled at the idea of those foot-sweat-soaker-uppers touching me.

I just generally seem to have sock issues. Though i've gotten better in recent years, for must of my life I was obsessive about matching socks. My socks had to match my clothes. And even after I switched to white athletic socks, they had to be matched even down to the extent of wear on the bottom.
