My favorite was sent to me by my Auntie some years ago; it's Snoopy atop his dog house, writing a letter to his editor. "Dear Editor, You're supposed to publish my stories and make me rich." Pause. "What it is with you?"
I also like the one from Calvin and Hobbes (which I wish I'd had during college) where he's telling Hobbes "I used to hate writing assignments, but now I enjoy them./ I realized that the purpose of writing is to inflate weak ideas, obscure poor reasoning, and inhibit clarity./ With a little practice, writing can be an intimidating and impenetrable fog! Want to see my book report?" Hobbes:"The Dynamics of Interbeing and Monological Imperatives in Dick and Jane: A Study in Psychic Transrelational Gender Modes." Calvin:"Academia, here I come!"
I am forcibly reminded of the day I showed up at my Literary Theory class in graduate school, desperate to have somebody, anybody explain the totally incomprehensible reading we had been given--it was incomprehensible.
And instead of explaining this gibberish, the professor gave a lecture on the Anal Myth of the Little Engine That Could. I am not making this up.
