I just added this to my Amazon wishlist. John Gielgud! Annie Lennox! Alan Rickman! Kenneth Branaugh! Fiona Shaw! Rufus Wainwright! Juliet Stevenson! Imelda Staunton! Ladysmith Black Mambazo! *Swoons*

(But where's Emma Thompson?)

Edited to add: Here is Alan Rickman's sonnet, in its entirety. As was remarked on [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes today here:
"Even if he wasn't so physically appealing, he has The Voice. You know how some opera singers can shatter glass? Alan Rickman can shatter underpants."
Nngh.

Edited to add again: And of course, we should also include the link to this which shows that, indeed, Snape is Too Sexy.

It's a fabulous CD! I use it on my more melancholy days and Shakespeare and great actors can't but cheer me up. I think the reason Emma Thompson's not on it is because she didn't go to RADA. (At least, that's the case if my memory isn't failing me today) ;)

I have the album -- it lives in my car for long, rainy evening drives when I need to relax and rejuvenate before getting back to the office. (I frequently drive 200 miles in a day.) The Annie Lennox and Rufus Wainwright tracks are my favourite of the musical variety. Alan Rickman is exceptional (of course), and the sonnet selected for him is deliciously Snapeish. Joseph Fiennes does some incredible workwith the bookend pieces, too.

Enjoy!

Sounds very cool!

And (since my mind works in strange & wondrous ways) I'm reminded of something I told Sue Grandys. She was told to have more fun, and is having a hard time coming up with ideas. My suggestion was to find the bleakest, goriest, "let's kill everyone" scene from Shakespeare (me, I'd go with the last scene of Hamlet) and act it out in Piglatin.

I can't believe this has been out for almost four years and I never heard of it! Thank you so much for the tip!

Someone had a link to an excerpt of the Alan Rickman piece... if I find it, I'll send it.

The entire Rikcman sonnet reading is here.

It's safe for work unless, like me, you turn into a melted puddle of goo when you hear that voice.

I took the CD liner with me when Sheryll and I went to New York in 2002 to see Alan Rickman in Private Lives, and he autographed it for me.

:)

Not only is he sexy? He's a really, really, really nice guy. Put up with us and all.
